RUG FITTING

How to measure for a rug If you do not have an existing rug to measure, check which size to order by measuring the horse. The measurement should be taken from the centre of the chest where the front of the rug would be, around the shoulder and on a continuous straight line to the point level with the top of the tail. This is much more reliable than merely depending on the height of the horse.

Neck Circumference is only given for Full Neck rugs: the measurement is for the circumference of the narrowest part of the neck cover (nearest to the ears).

Depth: Where a Depth is stated for a rug, this measurement is taken from the wither to the hem of the rug. Chest Depth: Where a Chest Depth is stated, the measurement has been taken at the front of the rug (just above the buckles to the bottom hem).

Jodhpurs and Breeches or other Legwear

Carefully take your inside leg and waist measurements. Remember that different styles of jodhpurs have slightly different proportions. Please note that when your jodhpurs arrive, they may appear shorter than the size ordered. This is perfectly normal as jods are made from stretch material. Please try on your jodhpurs to ensure their fit is correct.

Jodhpurs and trousers Waist measurement is taken all the way round the waistband of the garment, if it is an elasticated waist, this measurement is unstretched so allow 5 to 7.5cm of stretch on each measurement. Inside Leg measurement is from the top of the inside leg on the trousers to the bottom hem.

Shirts and Tops

We stock a wide range of clothing from a variety of suppliers and therefore the sizes differ slightly from product to product. The guides below are to help you identify your size requirement. If you are in any doubt or require further information about a particular product, please contact the Call Centre for further advice.

Jackets and tops: Chest measurement is taken all the way round the garment immediately under the arms. Underarm measurement is from the hem on the underside of the sleeve to the top of the arm. Back Length is taken from the bottom of the collar to the hem.

Riding Hats

Measure the circumference of your head just above the ears. For accuracy, we advise you measure in centimetres, not inches. For conversion to the riding hat or jockey skull sizes, please refer to the size guide panel on page 69. Circumference: Circumference is the measurement of the headband of any hat.

Bridles

As a guideline to bridle sizes, we suggest you use the size of a bridle you currently use and are satisfied provides a good fit. If this is not possible, use the following general guide:

Saddles

Seat size
Carefully measure from the midpoint at (A) the front of the saddle in a diagonal line to the cantle (B). This determines the saddle length. Another guide is that your saddle lenght should not be past the horses last rib.

Width fitting
Measure just below the cut back head just above the padding for the knee rolls (C). If you do not have an existing saddle, take a wire coat hanger and mould it to the horse’s withers, then draw around it on a piece of paper and cut out.

Gloves

General sizing
The rule of thumb is that you would choose a size imilar to your shoe size.

Obviously you want a good snug fit but bear in mind the material they are made from also.

Some gloves are suited to getting wet and would tigthen if worn in the rain making it uncomfortable so make sure you have chosen the right fit and material to suit the conditions you aim to wear them in.
